Lipid bilayers of liposomes, as well as that of cells, can be used as a platform assembling molecules of both different nature and roles to fulfil. For example, a placement of a long, polymer chains on the surface of the carrier, would make the liposomes invisible to the immune system.

Colour markers, thanks to which it is possible to precisely locate the carrier circulating in the body, or release the cargo in response to photon energy. Modification of the charge on the liposome surface allows the use of electrostatic interactions to control the affinity to tissues and/or individual molecules.

At Lipid Systems, we are improving and preparing the SONOSOME ^TM technology (covered by the patent application) for the commercialization , enabling effective closing of polymers in liposomes and then release them in a controlled manner, using concentrated high intensity ultrasound (HIFU). SONOSOME ^TM technology is being designed for targeted transport and release of cytostatics.
